Intraoral Camera

Milwaukie, Oregon

Oral exams are important, for both preventive maintenance as well as for diagnosing the cause of specific symptoms. A visual inspection is a critical part of your oral exam. It allows us to take a look at your teeth, gums, and the other soft tissues of your mouth. For many years, harder to see areas of your mouth were made visible with a handheld mirror. Dental technology has improved upon this mirror. At ComfortCare Dental, we are proud to use the intraoral camera.

What is the Intraoral Camera?

For many years, we relied on a small metal mirror to get a better view of more difficult to see areas of your mouth. While the mirror does afford us a better look, we are still quite limited in what we can see. Our mirrors have been replaced with the intraoral camera.

An intraoral camera is essentially a high-tech mirror. The wand is the size of a large pen and has a camera at one end of it. The intraoral camera is attached to a computer. When we move the camera around in your mouth, the real-time images are displayed on a monitor. The camera allows us to not only see the more difficult to see areas of your mouth but a more up close and personal view of your mouth’s structures.

Features for a Better View

Unlike the manual mirror, the intraoral camera is equipped with various features that allow us to get a better look in your mouth. Along with capturing real-time images, we can also take stills. This allows us to examine a certain area of your mouth without having to hold the camera in your mouth for an extended period. The software then gives us the ability to zoom in on suspect areas. We can enhance the image at the same time, which provides us with a clearer view. We can also change the color of the images from black and white, to color, to negative display. With the help of these features, we can see the smallest details of your mouth. We can make a more accurate diagnosis and take the right action to provide you with the best results possible.

You Get a Unique Look into Your Mouth

For years, when you sat in the dental chair, you would have no idea what was going on. During your cleaning and exam, we would describe to you what we were seeing. It could be difficult for you to picture exactly what we were describing. You may not understand the severity of the situation, or even believe that anything was wrong in the first place if we’re recommending something like a tooth extraction.

The intraoral camera gives you a unique opportunity to take a look inside your mouth. You can see exactly what we are talking about. This can help you to understand the severity of your dental issues and why we are recommending the treatments we do.

Easing Dental Anxiety

Many patients have fears and anxieties about going to the dentist. For some of these patients, this anxiety stems from the fact that they cannot see what is going on, and they have no control. Because the intraoral camera lets you see everything that we are doing, it can go a long way in easing any fears or anxieties you might be feeling.

Storing Your Images to Your Digital File

Physical file folders are a thing of the past. All of your information at ComfortCare Dental is stored digitally. This includes your X-ray images and images we capture with the intraoral camera. When we need to access an older image, we can easily recall it with a few clicks of a button.

With the intraoral camera, we can see the tiny details of your mouth, which helps us to make a more accurate diagnosis. For more information, call ComfortCare Dental today!
